Marmol Radziner: Factory Tour

We previously called the first Marmol Radziner prefab the most beautiful prefab in the world. They are an unusual architectural firm in that they wanted to control the construction process from start to finish, and created their own workshop to do millwork. It was then a logical step to set up a larger factory to build their marvelous prefab designs and completely control the process from design to installation. Everyone else has to fight with trades and factories; Marmol Radziner owns them. Just to make sure that we are all completely green with envy, on September 24 (next Sunday) they are opening their factory to the public. You can see "65,000 square foot factory accommodating the fabrication of 20 prefab modules at once, including a cabinet shop, metal shop, and door and window shop. Centralized operations allow for greater control over every detail of prefab home production, from welding of steel frames to the installation of doorknobs." On the shop floor is the Utah house, a green solar powered, SIP walled wonder. Oh, to live in LA.
