High-end Appliances get Energy Efficient- For a Price.

We have always wanted a US$5,100 Viking Fridge but resisted because they were not energy efficient. Now we just have no excuse at all- Viking, KitchenAid and Maytag are all coming out with Energy Star rated high end appliances, costing 50-100% more than their standard lines. On some appliances like dryers the payout is fairly quick, but on a fridge you might save $ 7-10 per year. Treehugger wants to see energy efficient appliances for people who can't afford to buy Viking and who are hardest hit by rising electrical prices, and they don't read Gourmet and Architectural Digest. ::Wall Street Journal
