Restaurant of the Week: Nora, Washington, D.C.
Nora Pouillon is a longtime advocate of using organic, seasonal and locally produced ingredients. So it's no wonder that when she opened her restaurant, Nora, in 1979 her trademark became organic cooking for the "big following" of environmentalists and politicians among the other Washington, D.C. residents. This led Nora to become America's first certified organic restaurant. All of the food is prepared in a healthful way and in addition to Starters, Salads and Main Courses, Nora offers a Tasting Menu and Vegetarian Tasting Menu. Beef reared on organic hay and cereal grains, free-range chickens, creamy hand-made goat cheeses, juicy heirloom tomatoes, fresh picked wild mushrooms, and local applewood smoked trout are some of the ingredients Nora prepares daily when in season. And if you like Nora, then check out Asia Nora featuring simple, healthful dishes from across Asia with a unique and artful interpretation of fusion cuisine, using the best seasonal organic ingredients. ::Restaurant Nora
