MindBodyGreen Deals, the Groupon for Greenies

Image: MindBodyGreen

Groupon's pretty great for eco-bargain hunters like me-- in New York City, it has offered discounts on the likes of American Apparel, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and GustOrganics (as pictured above.) Not all of the sales stem from sustainable sources, however. The random helicopter tour, sushi restaurant or Gap discount often lands in my inbox. Delete.

MindBodyGreen Deals on the other hand is one of those, "why-didn't-I-think-of-that?" Groupon business models--filling the niche for greenies looking to support and save pennies solely in the eco- health, spa and travel department. The founder of all this is Jason Wachob, who is entirely cool (I chatted with him over cocoa as he shared his website's no-ads model). Only part of a three-member team, he does the homework, partnering up and creating deals with only responsible companies walking the green talk.

MindBodyGreen Travel & Local Deals
Under the flash travel section you can score steals to destinations like mom-and-pop-operated yoga retreats, and eco-boutique hotels. Take the current deal to Lake Tahoe, California's 968 Park Hotel for example. According to MindBodyGreen's overview,

The hotel was remodeled using reclaimed and recycled materials: All furniture was custom designed from recycled wood, the mirrors are from old armoiries, paints are Zero VOC, there are dual flush toilets, low flow faucets and showers, and even the soap and shampoo are organic and come in biodegrabable packaging.

With a standard double room ringing in at $199/night, offered at $52.14/night on MindBodyGreen Travel, need I mention any more?

If you'd rather staycation, MindBodyGreen also encourages us to keep it local with their Local Deals section--for now, only available in New York City. Everything from yoga class memberships, yoga mats and apparel to colonic irrigations (for the brave!) and fare from certified organic restaurant GustOrganics have been offered. Los Angeles and San Francisco local deals are on the docket for January 2011.

As brand new site sections added to MindBodyGreen's traditional article and interview offerings, there are a lot of deals still left to be offered. What is currently offered, however, is worthwhile, and I'm all for it staying eco-quality versus quantity. As we 'Huggers know, less is more.
