Dr. Laura Jana on Cellphones for Kids

Dr. Laura Jana is a paediatrician and author of Food Fights: Winning the Nutritional Challenges of Parenthood with Insight, Humor and a Bottle of Ketchup. She was on a panel with me and the subject of cellphone safety came up. I asked her what she thought about giving cellphones to kids. The advice was straightforward.

She is not convinced that parents should panic in the face of the new evidence that cellphone radiation is causing brain cancer, more research is needed. However one shouldn't ignore it either. From a parenting point of view she finds cellphones useful but recommends that they not be used as a social tool but only when necessary for essential communication. Limit their use and switch ears regularly.
