Designer Katie Brierly of Isoude works with local sewers in New England, where the textile industry once thrived. The collections are made by hand in small runs. "I make less; my only goal is to do it well," says Brierly. "One man who cuts my silk has his father working with him; he is 80 years old and says he can finally teach his son the finer aspects of cutting silk."
