Best Effort by a Large Corporation: Intel Corp.

Surely there are some other great green efforts by the large corporations of the world, but in terms of both the practical implications and symbolic effect, the purchase of more than 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours of renewable energy credits for its past year's electricity usage by Intel Corp. is at the top the list. Those RECs amount to about 46% of Intel's electricity usage and makes the company the single largest purchaser of renewable energy in the United States.

The entire computer industry could use a good greening—in singling out Intel, this isn't about green products or the lack thereof—but by making such a large renewable energy purchase, Intel showed that it was willing to take a large step towards promoting renewable energy...something businesses large and small, government and individuals all need to have in the front of their mind while making every decision.--MM
