47 Groups Urge New York Governor To Fully Ban Fracking

After New York governor Andrew Cuomo partially lifted the moratorium on fracking, opponents of the natural gas extraction procedure were predictably and probably justifiably not happy. Now 47 organizations have written the governor a letter urging him to enact a statewide ban.

Since TreeHugger has covered the potential and actual environmental problems with fracking so many times (check the links below for more info), I'll skip ahead to the rhetoric and the list of organizations...United for Action's David Braun:

By banning fracking in the New York City and Syracuse watersheds, the Cuomo administration is clearly demonstrating awareness about the potential for serious hazard to the citizens of those municipalities. It is unacceptable however that they create a double standard and leave the rest of the good citizens of New York state completely vulnerable to serious toxic threat, and protect only a portion of the population. Why are upstate citizens any less important?
