Enter MTV's Copenhagen Climate Video Challenge

They used to play videos but now they air reality shows 24/7 that feature a bunch of rich knuckleheads. But MTV isn't all bad. In fact, they are sponsoring a really cool contest for youth around the climate negotiations in Copenhagen later this year. MTV is inviting its viewers to enter the Internews Earth Journalism Awards Competition by entering the MTV Positive Change category of the competition "with your best, most original piece of content on climate change for a chance to pick up your award in Copenhagen."

MTV wants you to "express in whatever format you choose how our society is adapting, or needs to adapt, in response to the threat of climate change." The selected winners will go to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December and get a chance to cover the negotiations.

On the table at the negotiations are short-term and long-term reductions targets for greenhouse gas emissions, funds for mitigation and adaption to climate change, and mechanisms to battle deforestations. The agreement will be the next phase of the Kyoto Protocol, which the U.S. never ratified.

Enter the contest here. Winners will also get a Flip video camcorder. The competition is open for entry from June 22, 2009 to September 7, 2009.

Rules
Submissions can be in any format or in a mix of formats-- video, audio, photography, script, music--but the max is 3 minutes long. Potential winners must be between 18 and 28 years of age.
