Leveraging the success of their collaborative and socially-conscious design network, Design 21, Felissimo Design House has introduced another social design initiative called Social Designer. It’s an interactive online design and fashion marketplace for people who not only want to make a difference, but want to try their hand at designing products for a greater good.
The site aims to promote awareness of ethical issues via their design competitions, with top prizes of $2,000. Themes include Animal Welfare, Peace, Education, Environment, Human Rights and so on, and benefit specific non-profit organizations, and winners get to see their designs printed on t-shirts and bags. For example, the recent Animal Welfare competition will donate a portion of proceeds from merchandise to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Social Designer also hosts products by celebrity designers, made for charities of their choice.
Joining the Social Designer network is free, and winners are chosen through by the online community and a panel of judges.
