Artist Katharine Harvey has created work out of waste and plastic before, like her installation for ScotiaBank Nuit Blanche last fall, but in honour of Earth Week she recently topped that with a 21 foot tall, 15 foot wide chandelier that was installed in Santiago Calatrava's Galleria in Toronto.

By transforming plastic recyclable containers into a massive chandelier, the installation creates a provocative social commentary on the glut of plastic in consumer society. These banal cast-offs are used to depict a status symbol of luxury and opulence. Devoid of elegance or grace, the oversized metamorphosis may seem both wondrous and horrific.
