Update: Isabella Rossellini's Green Porno was Renewed for a 3rd Season and a Book
Get Ready: Green Porno 2 Begins April 1st
It all started with Isabella Rossellini's original Green Porno TV series ("8 highly surreal short-films about the sex lives of insects"), which was picked up by the Sundance Channel. This was so popular and well-received that Rossellini and Sundance announced round 2 last year: A new Green Porno series of short films about the sex lives of marine animals. And now the time has finally come... Green Porno 2 is premiering April 1st! More details below.
"The animals that live in the ocean are so different than us. In their sexual behavior, marine creatures are even more scandalous than bugs." --Isabella Rossellini
Green Porno tries to do two things: Be scientifically accurate and be highly entertaining, and I think it succeeds at both (well, as much as hand-made costumes can be scientifically accurate, that is...).
Green Porno 2 begins with "Why Vagina," a look at biological realities and bespoke animal genitalia. The following five films describe the procreative techniques of well-known ocean-dwellers: a whale, a limpet, a starfish, a barnacle, an anglerfish. Imagining herself as the particular creature, Isabella then transforms into the male of the species and explains in a simple yet engaging dialogue the actual act of species-specific fornication. The costumes, colorful sets and backdrops, as well as the female creatures (all simple paper cut-outs and sculptures) contribute to the playfulness of the films.
Warning for those that are at work and don't have headphones, the video below contains the word "penis" a bunch of times and some mating sounds.
If you haven't seen the first Green Porno films, you must check them out on Sundance's website.
