Detroit Auto Show 2009: Chevy "Beat" Microcar Concept Turns into "Spark"

New Global Car for 2011
The Beat concept microcar (which is actually not that small when you see it in person - see the pics below) has been selected to become a global car called the Spark in 2011 (but available in Europe in 2010). GM says it will get at least 40 MPG, and apparently it will appear (either in Beat or Spark form) in the big Hollywood sequel to Transformers.
More pics of the Beat below.

“Chevrolet Spark will bring great style, roominess and versatility to the segment of extremely fuel-efficient small cars in the U.S.,” said Troy Clarke, president of GM North America. “The decision to add the Spark to Chevrolet’s portfolio reflects the brand’s commitment to being a fuel efficiency leader in the industry.”

"The Spark will make its world debut in full production form at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2009. Sales begin in Europe in the first quarter of 2010, followed by other markets around the globe."

As you can see, the main differences between the Beat concept and the Spark on top are the extra doors and the normal mirrors instead of the cameras, as well as some small cosmetic changes.
No word on pricing yet, but it will probably compete against cars like the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit, so we expect a similar range.
