HP Laptops Get Awesome New Lithium-Ion Batteries

Remember how Boston Power reported that notebook users wanted greener laptops that have longer lasting batteries? Well, they’re now prepared to give improved batteries to those hopeful users.
The battery company has partnered with HP to provide their Sonata batteries as an upgrade to the Enviro Series notebooks. And boy do they sound worth the upgrade.
Boston Power and HP are set to give folks purchasing an HP notebook from the Enviro series a far better battery. For around $20-$30 (no firm price yet) a customer will be able to upgrade their laptop to come with a lithium-ion battery that has, get this, a 3-year warranty – the longest battery warranty available for notebooks.
The Sonata doesn’t show nearly the charge degradation during its lifetime that many other lithium-ion batteries suffer, and the battery charge lasts an average of 4 hours before needing a re-charge. Users who plan on running Windows 7 may even be able to squeeze more work time out of that.
So, besides lasting longer than other batteries and holding a nice long charge, what is green about this?
Boston-Power is the first and only provider of rechargeable Li-ion battery cells to earn the prestigious Nordic Ecolabel certification for the cell. Created in 1989 and part of the Global Ecolabel Network, Nordic Ecolabel acknowledges companies like Boston-Power that are conscientious regarding the environmental impact of the production, usage and disposal of their products, providing guidance and alternatives to consumers who prefer products designed with the environment in mind.
Very nice. HP is no slouch either. They have a history of improving their green side. Creating this new Enviro Series of notebooks underscores that.
The option will be available in early 2009.
