90° Furniture: A Flatpack Apartment by Lowrien Kaptein
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 12. 3.08

I am a sucker for furniture that can slide under your door; Imagine how much less shipping, less material is needed when it flatpacks so efficiently, Dutch designer Louwrien Kaptein had designed an entire apartment, complete with working area, sitting, sleeping, cooking and storage.

"Each unit is a room divider and a functional piece of furniture. The interior is easy to move [and is] usable in any space."
He has built the cupboard unit, but you can see the whole apartment in a movie here.

woah.... cool. but a bit weird though... I mean that gives the effect of being in a sort of doll house.... all holes, flappy things, pop outs... nice design, but I think I'll just leave it in the store
clever geometry but I din't believe it, pivotong joints in cardboard?
I love these things too, but the one thing I constantly hear is the word "shipping." Jeeze, how about selling the plans so people can have the furniture manufactured locally. Much less shipping, local materials, local skills. Now that is a socalled "green" idea that is in conflict with making money at any cost. Just a thought.
