As we get closer to shutting down the first decade of the millennium, we have many fond celebrity comments that have echoed across the headlines and made us all laugh (at least a few of us anyway). While these quotes were undoubtedly intended to appear intelligent and conscientious of the planet in some shape or form, they just didn't quite make it across the headlines the way they would have liked. Let's look at our top 5 examples of this...

Jennifer Aniston:

“I take a three-minute shower. I even—brush my teeth while in the shower.”
(Source: Moono.com)

We know that she was trying to get the idea of water conservation across here, but technically you don't really need any water to brush your teeth until you rinse the brush off at the end. Where is the water savings in this? But that's okay, we still love you Jennifer!

Sheryl Crow:

“I have spent the better part of this tour trying to come up with easy ways for us all to become a part of the solution to global warming. Although my ideas are in the earliest stages of development, they are, in my mind, worth investigating. I propose a limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting—only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two to three could be required"

We can appreciate that she has already said that this comment was just a joke, and we are sure that she wishes that this stupid quote would quit getting dragged out of the porcelain throne again and again. But we figured what the heck, just once more for old time sake!

David Hasselhoff:

"Beyond its entertainment value, Baywatch has enriched, and in many cases, helped save lives! I'm looking forward to the opportunity to continue with a project which has such significance for so many."
(Source: VH1.com)

We had no idea that several bikini clad women on television could enrich the world and save so many lives. Perhaps we are all going about this “green” thing wrong after all.

George Bush:

"We got issue in America. Too many good docs are getting out of business. Too many OBGYNs aren't able to practice their, their love with women all across this country.”
(Source: VH1.com)

Okay, we know that health care is a big issue today, and that a loving doctor is something we all hope for. But just what type of “love” is he referring to here!

Mischa Barton:

"Pretty people aren't as accepted as other people. It comes with all these stigmas."
(Source: VH1.com)

The heck with saving the whales, look at what beautiful celebrities have to live with each and every day of their lives!

"wishes that this stupid quote would quit getting dragged out of the porcelain thrown again and again"

Very interesting typo! I think you meant "porcelain throne".

Are you sure Hasselhoff isn't referring to the beach safety techniques that get demonstrated on a lifeguard show? Actually, it almost sounds like he's saying the show has given some miserable people a reason to live because it is so entertaining. Either way, I don't quite see how it's green, and they're both a stretch.

The last three quotes really don't strike me as directly green, and indirect associations are a stretch.

Who the hell is "Mischa Barton" ? And 3 of these aren't even about the environment...

What do the last three comments have to do with Treehugger, the environment or anything green? Piling on silly actors and models will always be fun, but the Bush-bashing has been old for a long time (even when balanced by a dose of Obama/Biden gaffes for good measure). Please, if you don't have anything relevant to add to this site, please don't post anything at all. Or, more likely, if you can only find two silly celebrity quotes about the environment, maybe you aren't trying very hard. If this were a personal blog I wouldn't be so harsh, but you guys are supposed to be professionals, and this is just sloppy.

You forgot to mention Obama's famous "making sure your tires are properly inflated" quote.

Or maybe you didn't forget?

“green” thong wrong...
I read that Australian women buy 1.6 bikinis a year - http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,24575013-37275,00.html
Given a population of 21,007,310 and that half of them are women and, say half of those are bikini wearing...
5,251,827... with 1.6 bikinis each = 8,402,923 (and that's just Australia!).
Now, let's say that Baywatch bikini minimalism encouraged a 20% reduction in cotton per bikini...
I didn't realise that we have a lot to thank Baywatch for!

Nice try.

However, only one of the quotes dealt with "How to Save the Planet." (Crow's joke doesn't count.)

Fairly lame editorial effort.

Sheryl only had part of the solution. There, of course, must be instructions with such austere measures:

Take square of choice, any recycled product will do; fold in half, rotate 90 degrees and fold in half again; at corner of the folds, tear off a piece in the shape of a 1/4 moon approximately 1/2" in length , as measured along the flat folded edge, put piece in shirt pocket; place square, now having a hole exactly in the center, over your longest finger of the wiping hand; using this finger, dig all the offensive material out of the problem area, insuring that you get it all out; fold square around "used" finger and pull smartly downward removing the offensive material from said finger; now take the little piece you tore from the center of the square which made the hole for your finger and clean that offal stuff under the fingernail.

Just tryin to help.. hee hee he

George Bush's comment is worth making fun of, both because it was among the most stupid and because he has had a much more direct effect on the policies we've all suffered through, informed by the critical thinking behind this quote, than any of the celebrities quoted. Why waste time making fun of well-meaning, well-known but politically ineffectual people?

How was the Obama quote stupid? He is absolutley right in asserting that inflating tires correctly would save a ton of oil! When I googled the comment, I got led to a right-leaning blog that talked about how dumb his comment was, and how Congress needed to act (drill) immediately to stop oil prices from increasing any more. I wonder what that moron thinks now! High oil prices are not the problem; and the answer certainly isn't to simply drill more!
