It Slices, It Dices: Wireless Router Vase
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 11.21.08

Electronics are often so ugly and inanimate; why not make them do multiple functions like this combination wireless router and vase? Finally, electronics you can really call green! No doubt the flowers will last so much longer in that energizing bath of EMF. The designers say that “The STC Router successfully bridges the gap between lifestyle and technology with it’s flower vase functionality.”

It was created for that hotbed of cutting edge design, Saudi Telecom, who "was in need for a unique router design that would provoke a positive emotional response. Wireless internet, Voice over IP, land line telephone and wired DSL are all incorporated into this elegant device."

As one commenter at Dezeen noted, "Finally! Its what I’ve been waiting for ever since my eggbeater/iPod failed to bridge the gap between lifestyle and technology!"

I personally feel that this is a wonder idea. I was looking @ my router just the other day wondering what I could do to hide the clutter that it adds. This vase is a fantastic idea.
ummm, water + electronics
Kinda seems "pretty" stupid to me.
Vase water + electricity = 1 less person = good for the environment.
Except that one wants to keep cut flowers cool and wireless routers tend to be warm.
Why not use that heat for something useful like making yogurt, sprouting seeds, or drying socks?
This really is a great idea, to many of our tech gadgets just dull down our home, this brings in color and some natural life
Great, combine critical electronics with something that people will need to pour water over on a weekly basis.
It would have been much better to combine a lamp with router. Then you could have huge antennas hidden in the shade, and lamps need a cord anyway, so a few more cables would be not as obtrusive.
Nice idea, but its still rather ugly. I certainly wouldn't be caught dead putting that on my mantle or dining room table. I hate to be such a nay sayer, but couldn't it look more like a vase, and less like a router? I'm sure there are tons of industrial designers out there that could design something that would fit a bit better into a home.
I think it's a pretty cool idea, however yeah I do really agree with others that the water and electricity idea don't sound like a match made in heaven. However on the other end it did change it's design to something that serves a function without really consuming any form of power either, so... they tried and came up with a pretty sweet idea :)
