I do both. I send out homemade photo cards from my husband and I and then I supplement to some people with amusing ecards.
In general, ecards should never be sent as a substitute for something tangible at birthdays/major holidays. That's right up there with sending a card that's 100% computer printed right down to the signatures. Tacky and impersonal.
i like getting paper cards. i very rarely get cards of any kind from anyone, but a paper card is nice. someone one took the time to go to the store and look at all the options and find one they felt expressed what they wanted to say.
but an ecard can be nice, too. they are often animated and have sound.
people should just feel loved to get a card from someone, regardless of type.
It depends on the recipient. Personally, I prefer getting e-cards because I like to reduce paper use. But not everyone I send cards to would appreciate that. Moreover, I've still got lots of relatives that don't use e-mail.
I filter them all out as spam, they are a major vector for distributing trojans and other nasties.
I really thought nobody was sending them at all anymore because of all the e-card spam.
