Is it a TreeHugger photo shoot? No just Sarah Michelle Geller on her pink bike and we love how she substitutes her grocery bag with a basket! Fortunately, there are paparazzi out there capturing our favorite celebrities on their bikes and spreading the eco-friendly transportation.

haha! this looks more like a publicity portrait than a spontatneous shot. and good lord, is she ever thin :(.

Where are the helmets?

jump to top Anonymous says:

If she is that skinny she should be wearing knee pads and a helmet.

Must be a glamor shot - where's the basket of fresh produce in the first fram? Besides, she obviously doesn't eat.

Ah the publicity shot, one second a bike and no basket, next second a bike with basket full of food. kickstand is down, which is a good thing as looking at her, she'd not be able to hold it up herself. She's going nowhere and the bike will be back at the shop in an hour.

You can also see the photography equipment in the second photo!

It's obviously a publicity photo, but either way it is still good to see famous people setting this example.

It may not have been a TREEHUGGER photo shoot, but it WAS a photo shoot.

Why would she be in spike heels if she really were riding? Look how artfully her basket is arranged. And, of course, there's also the photog equipment in shot 2. (Not to mention the look on her face that says, "You want me to RIDE this now???")

Sorry, Treehugger. This is as posed as it gets!

But it's a pretty shot and does make me want to go ride my bike to the market...

Love that bike! Does anyone know what brand? Probably out of my price range

jump to top Kristy says:

That bike is an Electra Townie. They are pretty fun bikes and make great commuter / around town bikes. I have worked in bike shops the last few years, and these have sold pretty well. Google Electra Bikes to find a website.

jump to top Scott says:

Isn't that SARAH JESSICA PARKER, not Sarah Michelle Geller?

Tree Hugger:

You are kidding, I hope.

This is so obviously a staged shoot it's ridiculous.

The same car and buildings in the background. The same outfit. Cycling in heels? Give me a break. She had a staff place the veggies and the basket on the bike.

What are you trying to hand us?

Get real. Hollywood, in case you don't know, is 110% make believe.

bikes are cool even for celebs.

Pardon me for being a feminist as well as an environmentalist, but "Girls" on Bikes? Almost all of those bikers are over 18, that makes them women. "Women on Bikes," see that still sounds good.

And how come one of them should wear a helmet next time, but another "couldn't be sexier" as she rides around with no shirt ("!") and no helmet either? Do we value the life of one but the boobs of the other?

There must be better ways to encourage people to ride bikes than to turn half the population into a soft porn gallery to try to entice the other half.

"cycling in heels?"

"where are the helmets"

The same reactionary comment that always comes out - these celebrities forgot the message that cycling isn't for normal people, it's for people wearing skintight lycra shorts, helmets, and they should work up a sweat or they're not doing it right.

No thanks. Check out CopenhagenCycleChic.com where you can see that this silly hysteria, that keeps cycling down around 1-2% in the USA, is completely unnecessary. You can look beautiful while riding, and you can wear heels and ride very well. There's even a 'cycling in heels' section on that site!

Oh, and helmets don't make cycling safer - they push people off bikes and usage rates plummet, and head injury rates per mile have gone up significantly wherever they've been promoted. They've even gone up in absolute terms despite greatly reduced numbers in Canada, Australia, the UK and NZ. Go look at the stats before you tell me otherwise.

Where the least people wear helmets, the head injury rates are lowest, because people realise the key is avoiding the collisions with cars in the first place. The only way to do that is with infrastructure, and having cycling seen as a normal activity (see above).

@ George

Where is the 'cycling in bellbottoms' section?
