Are you dreading the consumer season, packed with plastic? Do you wish you could find the perfect sustainable, ethical stocking stuffer? This holiday season, get your kids, nieces, nephews and the other munchkins in your life a present that will improve creativity and teach them the value of fair trade and green.

The ethical on-line shop Boutiko is one place to start. Boutiko has stocked up on a range of brightly colored gifts that will appeal to children from 12 months through pre-teen, including two variations on the traditional jump rope that will have your youngsters itching to get outdoors and exercise.

Boutiko sources these toys from artisans in Sri Lanka under fair trade conditions. The range includes block pictures, like the farm animals pictured above, as well as jigsaw puzzles and jumping ropes. The toys are made from rubberwood, sustainably sourced from exhausted rubber plantations due for replanting, and hand painted with non-toxic paints. The toys are packaged in PVC-free packaging recycled from waste materials from local suppliers.

This is all great and wonderful, but there's a nagging issue with those blocks. Nice sharp corners and edges. At least round them off like the wooden blocks I had back 30 some odd years ago.
Not sure why you are recommending that Americans purchase eco gifts from a store in the UK when there are great places closer to home. Progressivekid.com, for example, has first-rate stuff and tons of useful info on their site.
