Cool Eco-Campaign: Climate Change Melts Man in Buenos Aires

A young man melting into a puddle of himself is something you don’t see everyday, much less in a busy public square. Yet this humourous but surprisingly effective spectacle is the latest effort by the Red Cross of Argentina to raise awareness about climate change.

Located in Buenos Aires’ Plaza Francia, the oozing young man passes out fliers urging spectators to use public transportation, conserve water, reduce, reuse, recycle and to use energy-efficient appliances. This imaginative piece of guerrilla publicity highlights the fact that much of the funding of the Argentinian Red Cross goes to assisting those who have been most affected by natural disasters exacerbated by climate change.

What a fantastic display! Just brilliant and creative!

What good does protesting do?

Protest, then drive 50 miles home in your SUV.

More bad than good buddy.

jump to top bob b says:

bob b: cynicism makes it so easy to put down others. Do you even know them? Perhaps he walks home after the protest, or takes a wheelchair. Perhaps he does something other than sit on his butt making smartass remarks about others.

This is clever and, I expect, generated news coverage, promoting a cause. One step at a time.

What good does it do to raise awareness about BS?

jump to top Willy says:

Ha ha. I felt like that a few times back in the 60's!

jump to top Alan says:

How about the thousands of scientist that say global warming is bs? Trust one guy off the street and not even think to check your facts......Look it up if you want, it's happened before and it'll happen again.

jump to top Brian says:

There should have been more people "melted" just like this guy! that might have been a more impactful demo. The fear of everyone starting to melt would have lead us to think, "omg, I could be next!" Drive less and save us all.

great post fantastic effects gets the point accross

It dissapoints me to see some of the posts by those who do not believe the truth about climate change. It is a researched confirmed fact that we are going through a global climate shift, and we must all take action. I cannot force someone to change their point of views. I can try my hardest though, to urge them to do the research, look at the facts. There is SO much that can be done. There should be more of us out there like the melting man. There should be more people who would reach into their most creative processes to try to help.
Peace!

the sky is falling!!!
were all gonna melt away!!!!
we are gonna wake up tomorrow and be submerged under 6 feet of water!!!!

all of these are just basic fear mongering techniqes to play on peoples most primative fears that the world is coming to an end.

the truth is that there are scientist debateing on both sides of the global warming arguement. but the media tends to only show one side of the arguement.... because they want to scare the spit out of us!!!

Global warming or not we need to change our habits. No one can argue that pollution is not a huge problem. Something has to change.

Very very creative and convincing campaign. Would like to get more details on the process. e campaign needs to be replicated in all parts of the world.

It's really warimg our minds!

Honestly I haven't made up my mind regarding global warming; I have seen the research that this has happened before. However it is CERTAINLY plausible for our carbon footprint to affect the planet as it is substantial. YOU KNOW WHAT?? IT DOESN'T MATTER!! Why u may ask? Because we should all make every effort possible to reduce our footprint on our planet, our womb if you will. We do not need oil we do not need nuclear plants we do not need nuclear weapons! back to the basics, with the enhanced knowledge of our current status. We can use wind and solar power that is already here and free! If i papered your house with dollar bills would you let the wind and the rain turn them to dust? I think not, you'd be out on a ladder taking off each one! so why don't we use what is free and real to provide us with light after dark and cool or warm air as the season dictates to make ourselves comfortable and use electric cars when we need to go places that our feet or bicycles won't take us?? What will it take to each the masses and get them all on board, hey if its' a global warming scare so be it!

Ok, so I have read many comments of disbelief on climate change... But guess what? Climate change is a reality. It might not directly affect these people at a large scale right now, or maybe they can't make the connection, and so are still in denial for a reason or another, but it is affecting many people around the world.
The media is partly doing their job in alerting us all, scientists have proved just as 2+2=4 that climate change is a very serious issue. But we still live in the United States, we still don't have to deal with our children being contaminated by lead, we still don't have to deal with desertification (or do we?), we still don't have to worry about shortage of potable water and so forth.. It makes me sad to hear people doubt the seriousness of climate change - a kind message to them: go do some research.

It was 19 degrees farenheit yesterday, and monday it will be 11 degrees. That darned global warming is causing such nasty effects for us here in West Texas.

jump to top Eli says:

recently we've had some of the coolest summers, and some of the coldest winters ever recorded.

one town in central florida that used to grow oranges, have now switched to growing ferns commercialy, because it has become to cold to grow oranges.

The amount of carbon particals released into the ozone by humans, is equal to 1 grain of sand on a vast beach, or one bucket of water in the pacific ocean.

I think the whole movement is a small group of people who want to switch us to a carbon based economy...they want to controll all of the wealth in the world... they want to be the new opec/rockafellers.

this being said, I beleive that the high cost of energy is a tax on life, and a tax on humanity. and I dont like seeing seeing a small few get obscenely rich while others suffer in poverty.

I also believe we need to preserve wilderness areas and wildlife.

jump to top Anonymous says:

Scientists debating both sides of the issue??? How about 10,000 scientists on one side, and 5 Exxon-employed scientists on the other to do absolutely nothing but muddy the issues for those too lazy to pay attention! The debate -- like the one about whether the earth is round -- is done. Finished. No more arguing. Now time for the solution.
