California Prepares for Rising Sea Levels

California, a leader in climate change policy, made a move this week to prepare for the worst. Governor Schwarzenegger signed an executive order calling for a study of how rising sea levels along the state's 800 mile long coast would affect infrastructure, water supply and land use. More below the fold.
The order released by the Governor requires a comprehensive report be completed by 2010. The order is the first one made at state level in the nation that calls for climate change preparation.
California's waters have risen 7 inches in the last century and areas around San Diego may see a sea level rise of up to 18 inches. According to a recent report done at UC Berkeley, the state is not sufficiently prepared for the time of dramatic change this shift would bring about.
