Eric suggests that Now is the Time to Buy a New Vehicle, as the dealers are hungry and they they are tossing out incentives. If ever there was survey bait, this is it.

"Go shopping"???
Are you a friggin infant? The current global financial meltdown has nothing to do with consumer spending or even consumer confidence. If you utilized your brain's ability to LEARN, you would already know that. Watch a little Bloomberg and read a little WSJ before making such an ass of yourself.
LA: Willie, take a pill, it's a survey. George bush said it after 9/11 so it is fair game now.
Wow, maybe a little less coffee in the morning would help a little.
I won't be buying a car SPECIFICALLY to spite the system.
Right before the gas hike in the spring would have been the time to buy. My father bought a small car right after 9/11 because he figured there would be a rush on them. Who would have figured that that would be true 7 years later.
I won't be buying a new car becaue it is not needed. My budget plans for a new car in 2010 or 2011 (hoping to get a plug-in). The cars I have average 25-29 MPG overall, not great, but not bad either. Changing right now would not be cost effective at all. (Bikes are not an option for work reasons).

No. Just drive what you have until it won't roll any more. Americans are too accustomed to jettisoning their vehicles after just a few years. Get all the mileage you can out of your current vehicle by maintaining it properly, and when it becomes a lost cause, then buy a more sensible, fuel-efficient car, or better yet, get a bike and a bus pass, and rent a car when you need to travel far.
I'm not buying a new car because a) I bought one in 07 out of necessity (A Honda Fit) and b) I plan for it to be the last car I ever own.
This is how things should be made: with the intention that you'll use it for life. (exceptions, of course, apply.)
I have a 17 year old car, about to turn 18.
Unless the Army starts drafting cars, I think I am going to have to get a new car within the next year.
I would buy a new car if:
I could buy a family car that -seats 5 folks ranging from 5 feet to 6' 4", with two over 6 feet- plus some luggage- and gets over 40 miles per gallon. (or preferably is pure electric.) I have been waiting since my car was 10, telling it that it only has to keep running another year or so. Still waiting...................
What is that you say? Oh, it is only available in Europe and Japan?
Are you kidding me? So if GWB says it, it is fair game??? He's said such a myriad of stupid shite over the past 8 years, but what you just said trumps most of it.
But so what, the stock market is "back", fuel is cheap, party on dudes!
My plans are for next spring. My son will need a new car, so he can have my 2004 and i will buy a new car.
