Beautiful Bike Racks for NYC
Our friends at StreetFilms went to have a look at the finalists of the CityRacks Design Competition (which we wrote about in the past few months: See Call for Entries: Redesign the Bike Rack and Turning Bike Racks into Works of Art). Some really great bike racks have been designed. Little the little girl, I like the one that looks like a giant paperclip.

You can see the video and photos below.

Awesome! please keep us up to date when they pick a finalist. Some of these are pretty great, like the top one on this page.

Yes this is great! go NYC
I like the ring shaped one with the green post. Very atractive and functional.

Dude,

Atleast give credit to the videos you steal from other sites.

MGR: Streetfilms is linked in the first sentence of this post, as well as in the end with "Via StreetFilms". When you click on play you see a big StreetFilms logo. I think it's hard to give more credit than that. Besides, we were emailed by streetfilms about this -- they're aware of it.

Protecting my bike is a little more important to me than aesthetics. Any rack that isn't a metre/yard tall isn't worthwhile. In many cities there are too many as...uh, airheads who vandalize locked bikes by pushing them over to bend rims. Such morons see unattended bicycles as targets for "fun", not others' private property to be respected.

The best public rack I've seen is a horizontal bar a metre high with triangles on the underside (much like hangers). It's high enough to stand the bike and the triangles let cyclists lock in the wheels as well.
