Designer Melissa Baswell was working with hemp and organic fabrics, and dyeing with low-impact dyes, long before "eco" became as buzzword and back when eco-fashion was saddled with the unsavory rep of being as fashion-forward as burlap.
Her Chicago-based Mountains of the Moon clothing line, with classic lines that rise above fashion trends and an emminent mix-and-matchability, will soon be your new old favorites. (Ours is a tossup between the fall-ready Larkin Dress, shown above left, made from 100 percent organic cotton, and the Audrey Dress, which comprises 55 percent hemp and 45 percent organic cotton.)
Made in the United States in small, family-owned, and more important, sweat-shop-free facilities, Mountains of the Moon's tops, pants, skirts, and dresses feature sustainable fabrics such as hemp, tencel, and organic cotton.
"Mountains of the Moon represents more than just a clothing line," writes Baswell on her Web site. "We represent the blending of fine art, style, ethics, environmental and social responsibility and awareness."
The company makes regular contributions, whether its monetary or in clothing, to charities such as Oxfam, Carbon Fund, the International Tibet Independence Movement, Conscious Alliance, and the Red Door Animal Shelter. ::Mountains of the Moon

As wonderful as eco-friendly clothing options are, and as numerous as they seem now, where are the eco-friendly clothing options for plus-size people (especially plus-size women, whose fashion options now change as often as minus-size women's fashion options)?
Mountains of the Moon has been by favorite clothing line for years! There are so many "eco-designers" out there right now, and I take comfort in knowing these guys were around well before eco became the "in" thing to do. So glad to see you guys giving them the props they deserve! Their new Sophie Pants = to die for.
I can definitely see a growing trend with more green fabrics, as it has just barely breached the surface. I dont personally own any green clothing but it's definitely something I'd be willing to look into
