by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 09.24.08

That is, will the "Mother of all Bailouts" lead to "the end of the world as we know it?" Should we all head for the hills and start new communes and farms so that we can fend for ourselves? Or arm ourselves for the apocalypse like the survivalists?

Looking at the results, wow, we're a bunch of pessimistic bastards aren't we? :)
(I voted 3rd choice down)
American* economy.
The future will be different, there is no doubt. Recovery will take time, and things will get worse before they get better. They will get better faster if we are smart in dealing with the crisis, and that means making the right investment choices and curtailing unneeded spending. We need to save for our future far more than we have to date, but if we do, then our future will be a wealthy one. This is as true for governments and societies as it is for individuals.
Personally, I'm heading out of this country entirely. We have no universal healthcare. We have food in this country that is bad enough for anyone to end up sick. To top it all off, the rich are greedy while the poor go hungry and everyone is trying to become richer on the backs of others. This economic crisis is the direct result of such greed. We must either change our culture drastically, which I would love to see, or we must leave this country. Everybody sing, "Oh Canada....."
I'm voting other because while things are going to be different they don't have to be hard
People adapt, both in small and large groups --- we have before we can do it again.
It all depends on our combined and sustained efforts and the efforts we require of our leaders and representatives.
