If you’ve been waiting for something great to make you stand up and find a way to change the world there’s no doubt that the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge is built for you. Launched in collaboration between the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the Siemens Foundation and Discovery Communications as a means to educate, empower and inspire students and their teachers to become agents of change in making the environment a top issue in their neck of the woods.
And the prizes for the top entries that students submit are sure to grab their attention!
Beginning today, middle school students across the United States are being encouraged to "go green" and team up for the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, the first and only national K–12 sustainability education initiative aligned to education standards and designed to match students’ growing learning abilities throughout their school-aged years.
To get in the game, student teams of two to three students from sixth through eighth grade, under the guidance of a teacher or adult supervisor, can register at www.wecanchange.com. Teams are expected to identify an environmental issue in their community, research the issue using the scientific method, and create a replicable green solution using web-based curriculum tools powered by Discovery Education.
Prizes for Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge
And all student teams entering the Middle School Challenge will receive prizes for their participation; with top-performing teams earning cash, teacher education materials, and unique Discovery Experience trips. The grand prize-winning team will receive a very, very cool prize package that includes an appearance on the Discovery Television Network Planet Green and a once-in-a-lifetime Discovery Adventure Trip, accompanied by a Discovery TV personality.
So why not head on over to wecanchange.com and start coming up with your own great ideas as to how you’re going to change the world for the better?

This is a fantastic idea, the Go Green Initiative is finally starting to take off in Kansas but it took years due to lack of motivation from students rather than businesses. The only downer is that the Agents of Change would be way cooler if they had been the characters from Captain Planet.
