Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke
People didn't take him seriously as an actor because of his looks and his blue eyes. "I picture my epitaph," he once said. "Here lies Paul Newman, who died a failure because his eyes turned brown." But he was a success in film and in business, building Newman's Own, a company with the motto: "Shameless Exploitation in Pursuit of the Common Good" making all-natural organic food and donating all of the money to charity- $250 million so far. Paul Newman, dead at 83. Longer obit to follow on Planet Green. ::IHT

This man was no saint but he was pretty damn close!
A thing that sticks in my mind from his life - he was interviewed 10 years ago, and said ( paraprhasing), "Let's face it, this is a garbage culture. If something breaks, we throw it out. What we try to do when a toaster breaks is make it work again." [or words like that///]
One of my favorite actors (love love love Butch Cassidy, The Sting, and Cars), and a wonderful example of how anyone with even a little fame should conduct themselves in the world.
Surely his legacy will live on through his charity work, integrity in business, and his films.
