London Fashion Week: Fabulous Ethical Knits

As we've heard from Bonnie Alter the Estethica section of London Fashion Week was great on Canadians and Accessories this season. It was also, surprisingly perhaps for a Spring/Summer collection, fabulous for knits. Beautiful loosely woven, but cleverly structured pieces, which are ideal for cool summer evenings. We loved Stewart + Brown's elegant white knitted tops (Drape Neck Cardigan above left) in organic cotton and Makepiece's fresh and funky British mohair woollen Heliconiini shrug (above right). It was also wonderful to see Deborah Lindquist travelling over the pond to make her Estethica debut. Click over the page to see our friend Summer Rayne Oakes modelling Lindquist SS09.

Deborah Lindquist goes Tribal
Deborah Lindquist's collection took a decidedly tribal turn with Summer Rayne all dolled up Pocohontas style. Titled 'Island Girl goes to the Desert' Lindquist's trademark vintage cashmere was much in evidence with tribal patterns appliquéd onto pastel summer shades. Pretty with an edgy twist.

Makepiece inspired by AS Byatt and Darwin
Makepiece's SS09 collection (below right) was titled 'Angels and Insects' in tribute to AS Byatt, author of the book of the same name. They also reference the 200 year anniversary of Darwin. "These delicate, feminine summer dawn infused knits, include gossamer fine mohair ruched into shrugs, delicately traced butterfly inspired capes, bee delighting foxglove-fluted ruffles and lace panelled wing motifs all in hot, high summer colours."
