LIGHTEN UP by [re]design

After SIT UP in 2007 which was all about eco-friendly seating, [re]design have chosen lighting design to be this year’s target. LIGHTEN UP "looks beyond the bulb to explore an array of sustainable lighting strategies – including energy-efficient technology and design, sustainably sourced and recycled materials, lifecycle thinking and product-user relationships.”

RETOOLING OURSELVES by the o2 Global Network

After the first System Reload in Milan earlier this year, o2 Global Network, the international eco design network, idea for System Reload London is to take deep green design thinking to another level with Retooling Ourselves: Collaborative Design Actions. This series of participative events intends to spark eco-creativity and provoke the passion that exists within the international eco design community to create real and meaningful solutions.

TEN TWENTYTWENTYONE by The Ten Project

The Ten group of designers exhibits innovative approaches to sustainable design, called Ten Twentytwentyone, produced in partnership with retailer twentytwentyone. The Ten group are: Gitta Gschwendtner; Carl Clerkin; Tomoko Azumi; Chris Jackson; Stephen Bretland; Nina Tolstrup; Sam Johnson; Onkar Singh Kular; Hector Serrano and Michael Marriott.

ALTERNATIVE SITTING by Eco

Alternative Sitting are installations by established and up and coming designers including Pli Design, Reestore, Viable London, Adam Rowe, Osian Batyka-Williams, Farm Design and others. From a sofa made from a bath tub or a children's chair made from a shopping basket to a chair made from recycled computer consoles, all products are beautifully designed and made from recycled or eco materials. At the same time Eco will be paunching their roof terrace with solar powered ballustrades and plant insulation to help the energy running of the store.

360º by DEEDS

DEEDS (Design Education Sustainability) invites design educators, postgraduates, undergraduates and design practitioners interested in higher education and continuing professional development (CPD) in sustainable design for a day of talks and interactive media presentations called 360º. Speakers include: Alastair Fuad-Luke, Jonathan Chapman, and many more.

CREATIVE RESOURCE: THE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS COLLECTION by Rematerialise

Rematerialise seems to be making a come-back at this year’s LDF by showing their sustainable material collection and research. Their work includes investigates from a design perspective; the aesthetic, economic and manufacturing potential of materials made from waste and explores the network of partnerships between the business community, regional government and the waste management industry.

BOTTOM DRAWERS by PM House and designer Carl Clerkin

Bottom Drawers shows the work of 12 designers/makers to tackle subjects like obsolescence and the emotional value of things. The exhibition invites you to reflect on why we collect the things we do and why objects become important to our lives, often with a value that goes way beyond their monetary worth. It aims to be about the feelings we attach to objects.

FEEL GOOD FASHION at the British Library
