Pimping your ride is so last year. Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper and Laura Dern are taking it to greener heights and “blading their ride” with super-ninja-weapon-sounding, the Blade. The car accessory attaches to the tailpipe to cut carbon emissions and pollution and increase fuel economy. To help spread buzz about the Blade and show support for clean, green driving solutions for L.A.—and the world--Crow, Harper, Dern and other eco-stars will take the spotlight at an event called Drive the Change L.A. in Venice Beach, CA on August 14.

See Paris Hilton run for pres and the U.S.' hottie Olympic swimmer bare all, after the jump!

Amanda Beard Bares All in PETA Ad
U.S. Olympic swimmer, Amanda Beard gets naked in PETA’s latest anti-fur ad campaign, touting the tagline, “Be comfortable in your own skin. Don’t wear fur.” An investigation into China’s fur industry—from where most of the world’s fur is said to come—revealed footage of severe animal cruelty including harsh living conditions and the skinning of minks, foxes, dogs, and cats, which were often still alive. Beard couldn’t bear the thought, saying, “What [some people] think is pretty is actually something that's very gruesome and gross." With the Summer Olympics being held in Beijing, her message couldn’t have come at a more apt time.

Paris Hilton for President, Bitches!
And for those of you hiding under a rock—or just covering your ears and eyes from any mention of Paris Hilton—I don't blame you but pay attention! This news is not just worthy but hilarious. In a recent campaign ad, Senator McCain compared Obama to nihilistic celebs like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. In response, Ms. Hilton (and her, I must say, pretty brilliant PR team) created the ad above, about Hilton running for president. Whether or not her energy policy actually works, it sadly seems smarter than McCain’s. Watch it now, and then--as Paris says--“We’ll see you at the debate, bitches!”

Maggie Gyllenhaal Judges Climate Change
The Dark Knight's leading lady,
Maggie Gyllenhaal, is loving more than just her knight in Batman armor--she's lovin' the earth. So much so that she's joined the Climate Matters Video Contest judging panel. The contest is sponsored by Brighter Planet and 1Sky and asks U.S. citizens to do more than just rock the vote by submitting a video that challenges the nation's next President to take action against climate change. Entrants have the chance to get their climate message heard by our next President and other political big shots. Upload your video between now and September, 22nd at the official contest site.

I think Maggie Gyllenhaal has taken a lesson from Rachel Dawes- either that or she was a really good choice for the role. Willing to act on her beliefs, do what is right, and challenge entrenched interests that won't appreciate it... sound familiar?

The Blade?!? You're seriously promoting this snake oil? C'mon, it's one thing to try to be green, but supporting "devices" that claim to do things that defy the laws of physics is just ridiculous. You might as well start promoting "water" cars. Not to mention that they employ spammers to hit car forums where they spout incredible logical fallacies and resort to ad hominem attacks.

This thread is one of my favorites: http://www.links4jeeps.com/forum/index.php?topic=6510.0

Paris actually is proposing a pretty good policy. She has the good sense to pick out the very best part of the Obama policy, the tax credits that make it much easier for Detroit to retool for clean cars. She leaves out all Obama's BIG GOVT. tax and spend and regulate proposals. That is smart. Why?

If the Green Revolution is going to succeed, we need to find green policies that the right can cheer. What policies do Republicans adore? Tax cuts! Ok, so let's give'em tax cuts... for all green energy and green energy technology. That's right, make all things green and clean 100% tax free (sales, income, capital gains, and a few tax credits too), and we will see a massive national shift over to green energy, and most global green investment will flow through the US for the tax advantage. And it is a policy we can make stick, because Republicans just can't resist a juicy tax cut. This site makes the case, and looks at where Obama and Al Gore go wrong:

GreenEnergyTaxCuts.com

It seems just plain stupid to propose policy solutions that require more taxes, spending and regulation, when we can accomplish far more by going with a small government, market oriented policy like Green Energy Tax Cuts.

I can't figure out what you're supposed to do with THE BLADE filter once it's used up or how long the filter generally lasts before needing replacement. Is the filter biodegradeable? Looks like a great idea though.

LiveFreeAndGreen,

To add to your comment, a smaller government would by default be greener. There would be less buildings using electricity, less paperwork (that is sadly still done with paper as opposed to electronically), and less government vehicles driving around town burning up gasoline.

jump to top James says:

I agree with James, the U.S. Federal Government is the largest single consumer of energy in the entire world...

Many things get more efficient the larger they get until a point of maximum efficiency and then they get rapidly less efficient. The Federal government is well past that point. A study done 10 years ago BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!! (is there anything they don't do!) concluded that the government was too large and was negatively affecting the economy. Since then the government has gotten much bigger...

jump to top Jim says:

Paris obviously has some marketing savvy; she can turn anything into a PR boost for herself... thx to McCain’s miscalculation, she’ll be selling more cans of wine than ever
