Bill Nye Goes to the Bathroom in “Stuff Happens” Premiere
by Matthew McDermott, Brooklyn, NY on 08.14.08

Back when we were tooting our own collective Discovery Communications horn about the launch of the first TV channel dedicated to green living, Planet Green, we gave you a brief glimpse of the new series Stuff Happens. Now that the start of the 13-part series is drawing closer, here’s a bit more about what you’ll be seeing.
Bill Nye Shows Us Where Our Stuff Comes From, And Where It Goes
Hosted by perennial TreeHugger favorite Bill Nye, Stuff Happens will delve into the secrets of the everyday things around us that we take for granted: What goes into making them, what goes into us when we use them, and what are some unintended environmental consequences associated with them.
Episode One: The Bathroom
In the premiere episode, Nye explores the private porcelain palace called the bathroom. Some of the stuff that happens there may be unmentionable, but it all has an environmental impact—an impact we can reduce in painless ways that could make a big difference.
Nye tackles everything from toothpaste (does it endanger orangutans in Borneo?), to cosmetics (how many pounds of chemicals does your skin absorb over a lifetime of using cosmetics?), to toilets (what kinds of "super bugs" are growing in our municipal water systems due to flushing old prescription drugs down the toilet?)
Series Starts Tuesday, September 2, 9PM ET
Tune in for the series premier of Stuff Happens on Tuesday, September 2 at 9PM Eastern to see if Bill Nye can save the planet from the peril of sludge. Then tune in weekly at the same time, Tuesdays, 9PM Eastern, to see what other product life-cycle journeys Nye takes us on, and what simple changes we can all make to reduce the environmental impact of the things we love.

Could Bill Nye get any cooler? I can't wait to see this show!
That's the real rub about environmentalism, isn't it? We can recycle and carpool all we want, but we really can't get a handle on this until we figure out this industrial system surrounding all of us and neutralize the consequences.
All the Nye fans will gather around the tube to await his appearance on the screen. I miss those days in middle school science class when we'd watch Nye videos for the day. I hope they have a catchy tune for Stuff Happens...because, frankly, I don't know if they could beat the "Bill Nye the science guy" tune.
Either way, he'll attract both the green-believers and...since he's an icon that taps into people's childhood memories...the non-green-believers.
Props, Nye.
LOL, Dude, Bill Nye is DA MAN! I love Bill Nye. I am surprised he hasnt gotten with Google to take over the world yet!

Still sportin' the bow-tie. I miss his show.
Who doesn't love this guy?
Bill Nye is the man!
Too bad we only have basic cable, we can't get the Planet Green Channel to watch the show. =(
Bill is EVIL!!!
He thinks that the moon only REFLECTS the light of the sun, when it obviously generates it's own light.
Jeeze, it says so right in the Bible, so it MUST be true.
He's so stupid he probably thinks the world is round.
Looking forward to this series...
Holy Joe, if you cannot post a civil, intelligent comment, please leave. The Bible was written before humans understood how the moon reflects the sun's light or that the Earth is round. Plus, you're a poor speller. Besides, science is proving many, if not all, the geological events that are listed in the book of Genesis, in the order in which the universe and everything within it came to pass, including the creation of human last.
Comcast in Delaware currently has this time slot listed as Mean Green Machines on channel 113 :( My Comcast DVR goes by Title.
I am so excited for this to start! I think Bill Nye is a great scientist and environmental personality. I hosted an event at my college last year where he was the speaker, and it was truly one of the most interesting speakers/presentations I have seen. He really renewed my interest in science and the environment.
I can't wait to discuss the show on here!
If I'm not mistaken, the Bible does say the earth is round - in the Old Testament.
wow, he hasn't aged a day. what's his secret?
