Wretched Excess Dept: Lance Armstrong meets Celine Dion By The Pool

There is no question that athletes have to keep hydrated and go through a lot of water. But Lance Armstrong breaks all the records again with his little pile in Austin, where he used 330,000 gallons of water for his acre of gardens and swimming pool, at a time when Texas is going through a dry spell. “We are definitely short on rain,” Lisa Rhodes, a spokeswoman for the water authority, said with a sigh to the New York Times.

The charmingly named Daryl Slusher, assistant director of the City Water Authority, has ruled out a leak, and notes that Armstrong is contrite about it. Armstrong told the Austin American Statesman that he didn't know; “I’m a little shocked,” he told The Statesman. “There’s no justification for that much water.” He added, “I need to fix this.” ::New York Times

Hi,

It's a bit like Al Gore. Nothing against him personally, but as mentioned in this blog I was flabbergasted by the fact that the annual electricity usage at Al Gore’s home has risen by 10%. That despite the fact that one already pinpointed him as being hypocrite when he consumed 221,000 KWh of electricity in 2007.

Eddy

No big surprise really. Lance Armstrong is famous for being a d-bag. Let the lawn go brown I say!

I think it's kind of lame to call out Lance Armstrong about this. In that article it states that he has his bills paid, and his house taken care of by a management company. In fact he hasn't even been in the house for a few months. As soon as it was brought to his attention he responded quickly, and said he'll take care of it. Now the lawyer lady on that list who has received several notices from the water company and sill has one of the top ten bills is a worth note.

It seems an excellent story might be how do we get these management companies to better communicate the excesses to celebrities. I'm willing to bet that most celebs use these types of services and have no idea how much they're really using.

Sorry but I have to write this. Just call him "H(2)O Lance."

What do you expect from a Republican who bikes with Bush?

damn, i wish i could afford to live like that.

Uh. We're not going through a dry spell in Texas. We're currently in a worse rain situation than the dust bowl. Not as many people rely on wells though, so it's not as massive of a problem.

Credit where credit is due. Sure, it's disgusting, but the fact he said he has has no excuse and that he's going to deal with this issue is great. In lots of other similar stories, there's justifications and rationalizations.

"I need to fix this" is a powerful statement; wish we heard it more often from celebs.

Oooh! A *Repupblican*, who went on a bicycle ride with George McHitlerbu$h.

And he uses a lot of water!!!

Golly, I bet he punches babies, too.

You people need to get a life.
