I wonder if it was done on purpose. Probably not.. Which is even sadder.
"Special Today - No Ice Cream"
This should be on Failblog.
This photo exemplifies my everyday biking experience on SoCal streets... like trashcans on the bike path, bike paths ending right before a right turn where cars cut the corner.. I could go on and on, but I'm probably just preaching to the choir!
What are you guys complaining about? I would kill to have a bike lane here in connecticut. The roads here rarely have shoulders let alone a lane actually devoted to bikes.
@Rayn, it is indeed on Failblog:

The bike lane is awesome, putting a large sign in the middle of it for bikers to swerve around closer to traffic is what is so silly :)
I would love to have bike paths that actually make a difference in central Arkansas. Having bike paths in a park doesn't help me with my commute to work.

Why do bikers always find something to complain about? We can easily go around this. "We shouldn't have to go around, the bike lane should be free of obstacles." Yes, I know, but you can't always get what you want.
Why can't we just be happy there is a bike lane that, from this photo, looks pretty decent. When you ride a bike obstacles come with the territory, have some balls people.
Audrey, the problem is not that you have to go around the sign. the problem is that the sign, which seems to be trying to keep cyclists safe from cars, makes cyclists swerve dangerously close to high-speed traffic. Hence the irony.
You can always hope on the sidewalk and hop back off.
