Whatever secret superpowered personal energy source Richard Branson has in that body of his, I want some of it. Not content with his myriad other business ventures, the Virgin Group chairman is set to stake his claim in another market segment: Eco-Resorts. Note to those of you who may want to start down this career path, it helps to have two private Caribbean Islands to set you on your way.
Eco-Villas Planned for Branson's Two Little Spots of Heaven
Although it is not a done deal yet as the resort plans have yet to be approved, but the British tycoon has big green plans for his foray into resort development. Branson intends to create 20 exclusive villas and a beachfront restaurant all powered by wind turbines and solar panels. The planned buildings will be designed to make the most of the local wind patterns so as to avoid the need for air conditioning. All the food will be come from local, organic sources and all motorized transport will be powered by biofuels.

Branson was quoted by Business Week: “It is actually inexcusable for the Caribbean to need to use dirty fuels anymore when it has all these natural resources on its doorstep.”
Now, are carbon offsets for all the corporate jet flights and private yacht excursions Branson’s clientele use to arrive at their little bit of guilt-free relaxation included in the room rates?

Awesome. I wonder what kind of biofuels they're using.
Ridiculous!!! Branson has no interest in the color green except as it applies to money. It's exactly this sort of luxurious excess that's at the heart of the problem....more, more, more. Consumption is the problem. 'Greenwashing' the project is just a way for Branson to charge more for the experience and lure more exclusive clients. There's nothing eco-friendly about tearing up beach front so that the ultra-rich can have yet another place to sit around on their duffs.
Anthony, sounds like you don't really know anything about Richard Branson. He actually cares a great deal about the environment, and puts his money where his mouth is. He may not be perfect, but I'm sure you aren't either. Also, people will always travel and go on vacation. Not only is Branson giving people who can afford it a better alternative, he's also showing leadership. And others will follow...
I've watched Richard Branson with a high degree of interest in that he says all the right things. As a successful salesman renowned for his business accumen, I've also watched his activities with some scepticism. I think this is a billionaire with the concerned environmental conscience that we all should have. We 'little' folk eek along the best we can in our various concientious lifestyles but it's an honest pleasure to watch a 'monied' person doing what's right with the contents of his bank account. Kudos to Richard Branson and everyone else who is trying their best.
