If Nothing Else Works, Pray for Lower Gas Prices

Jim Morrison said "When I was back there in seminary school, There was a person there Who put forth the proposition That you can petition the Lord with prayer. Petition the Lord with prayer. Petition the Lord with prayer.
You cannot petition the Lord with prayer!"

Tell that to Rocky Twyman, who has been holding prayer vigils around the country; he says that since politicians have been unable to do anything about gas prices, its time for divine intervention. This week he is praying at the Saudi Embassy, to pray that they turn the taps on a little more.

"Bush can't solve it. McCain and Obama can't solve it. We're going to have to turn to God." People in Toledo think it can't hurt. "I'm praying right along with them. Because I miss my dollar gas," said one.

And I want a pony. ::NBC24 and ::CNSNews

Interesting idea. However, as a Christian myself, I think God would say, "I gave you two feet...use them!!!"

jump to top Mad Marcus says:

Boy have I got some things to say about this!

First off, you reap what you sow. This is a HUMAN caused event, WE did it. This is not some natural disaster coming to our impending doom. The only people able to release more gas are the Saudis. If they're praying, the only person's ears their words are reaching out to is them, in fact, they specifically state they need them to release X amount of oil. Way to go true believers! Pray to the oil gods!

Secondly, why are they praying for more oil? Wouldn't a science breakthrough like cheap wind/solar energy be FAR more effective in the short AND long term?

Thirdly praying for oil makes you look...well...a little silly. I'm sure you're desperate now that gas is at $4 a gallon but seriously, praying for more oil? Comon, show a little common sense.

Proving once again that nothing fails like prayer.

jump to top Doug [TypeKey Profile Page] says:

Another reason why religion is a joke.

jump to top Tofu says:

Speak for yourself, it works for me. I won't pray for more oil, though.

Have we learned nothing from the Poseidon Adventure?

God helps those who help themselves!

Seriously though, praying for lower gas prices while doing nothing to look for better solutions insults both the pray-ee and the pray-er.

jump to top Leif Rogers says:

Sorry. All my prayers go to the Leafs to win a Stanley Cup. I don't have any left for oil. :)

But really - Oil and Holy Water don't mix.

jump to top JonT says:

Perhaps someone should educate Mr. Twyman as to other more sustainable options. I'd love to see more Christians praying and working for a healthier environment. Serving people's basic needs by improving environmental quality is a natural fit for lots of churches. Many simply don't realize it.

jump to top E.R. Dunhill says:

Adding another point or so to the already incredibly high failure rate of asking thin air for things....

jump to top Andrew [TypeKey Profile Page] says:

I want a pony too.....What's Twyman's angle? Just media attention? He's succeeding at that...DB

jump to top Dan Brockman says:

I agree with Mad Marcus. Don't they say the Lord helps those who help themselves?

jump to top C.E. says:

Was Jesus pulled around in a giant gilded wagon or did he walk with his own two feet?

jump to top Just Asking says:

Actually, I have been praying for ten dollar a gallon gas. More room to ride my bike.

jump to top Anonymous says:

I asked Santa for a new bike but I never got it...

jump to top Bram says:

That will work, I'm sure.

Seriously, even if you could petition the Lord, do you really think that gas prices are the priority? 3000+ men, women, and children are dying in Iraq every month, but please Lord, please make our gas prices less than 1/4 of what Europeans pay... instead of 1/2 of what they pay.

I feel sorry for low income people caught in this situation, and I think the govt should help to keep people from starving because of gas prices, but higher gas prices are the only way we will ever get sustainable transportation solutions.

jump to top Michael says:

i just need gas prices and gas prices only and im not getting what i need i keep searching google and this is what i type, current events on gas prices and only gas prices in 2008 during september and october.. and it gives me this could youh please help mehh?
