I am looking forward to incorporating some more healthy food choices into my diet.
I am glad that Discovery started the Planet Green Network and is putting such a "green" message out there for people to follow. I was even more excited when I saw that there were going to be cooking shows featured on the channel. I was disappointed, however, that for a green cooking show it isn't really "green." The fact that Emeril is going to be using all sorts of meats (factory farms a major source of pollution [land, air, and water-based] as well as sea food [nothing that lives in water hasn't already been overfished]. Even farmed equivalents of sea food are detrimental to our oceans. Planet Green almost had it right. You want a "green" cooking show, broadcast one that contains only vegetarian or vegan recipes.
Sure. we could all be living on nutrient and vitamin infused soy protein. However many people don't want to. In order to inspire people to eat green(er) you must appeal to their appetite. People who want to eat meat and fish who are led to believe they must give it all up and become devotees of the soy-god to be green aren't going to do it. Baby steps, not radical change, is the only way paradigm shifts happen. Now i'm going back to my small scale, sustainably farmed, green and organic filet mignon. Try not be jealous.
I was looking foward to this show - I have been enjoying Planet Green...
But after seeing 2 episodes of Emeril's show.. there is NOTHING green about it. He hasn't used the word organic once and doesn't really seem to do anything to make these dishes green. Other than being in whole foods, what's green about it?
I love this network, but just dumping a big name into the mix doesn't really do it for me. Ed Begley, yes.. he's the embodiment of green - but Emeril?
