Block Parties Reclaim Streets for People
Once again, the good folks at StreetFilms show us the magic that can happen when streets are turned over to people, not cars – even for one afternoon. It seems there are over 3000 block parties in NYC every year. Check out Block Party NYC for a list of locations. And for those itching to see more video footage, we hear rumors that StreetFilms are working on a “best of” compilation of highlights from the summer’s party scene. Block parties in NYC are always a great opportunity to remove the cars and let the neighbors come out and enjoy themselves. Biking, rollerblades, music and food! A great change to the daily grind. My block party is only days away!

I'm always amazed by what the streets of NYC look like in uphotos from a century ago, before cars. Filled with throngs of people, incredible amounts of foot traffic and pushcarts. It's beautiful and uplifting. Sitting in cars is boring.
