Brad and Angelina's Twins, Nicole Kidman's Green Baby, Christy Turlington's Model Charity, and More

...Just in case you haven't heard. The world's seemingly most anticipated twins have arrived. Brad and Angelina are the new parents of a boy named Knox Leon and a girl called Vivienne Marcheline. Although barely days old, a magazine already reportedly coughed up $11 million dollars (the amount could exceed $15 million) for the first "official" photo of the twins. A crazy, ridiculous sum, agreed! ...One redeeming reality to this insanity for celebrity baby pics is the eco-conscious couple are donating all of the money to charity. ...Hopefully some of the cash will go to environmental causes or towards Brad's passion for building green communities.

Nicole Kidman's Green Crib:

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban photo

Unlike the Jolie-Pitt clan, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban will not sell pictures of their newborn daugther. But their baby is getting off to a green start. The parents are using the solare crib from the Q collection junior - its cited as the most environmentally friendly crib. ...Among its green qualities: contructed from locally-sourced ash, a non-toxic/water-based finish, and the mattress support is 100% recycled no formaldehyde-added plywood.

Hollywood's Greenest Couples:

Instyle magazine's website singles out Hollywood's 12 greenest couples. ...Such as Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry, who spent over $60 thousand to green their babies' nursery. Also, making the 'green' cut are Bono and his wife Ali. The couple donates the profits from their organic Edun fashion line to promote sustainable communities in impoverished countries.

christy turlington's roberto coin campaign

The supermodel comes out of semi-retirement for a good cause. Christy, who once dominated the fashion world, spends most of her time mothering her two kids and working with various charities. Now, the do-good model has teamed up once again with Italian jewelry designer Roberto Coin to shoot his upcoming ad campaign. The campaign will benefit one of Christy's favorite charities, CARE, which fights against global poverty.

Phew.
I don't know... somehow this celebrity-wing of Treehugger makes me ill. I can appreciate anyone being green or donating money to charities... good for them... but the culture of celebrity ultimately is very anti-green at its root... and the sums of money being "spent" by some celebs on being green are ridiculous (i.e. $60,000 to "green" the halle berry nursury - - ??? - - I could have done it for them for under $100. It is called getting used baby-furniture and buying LESS perfumed and blinged-up crap.) I really fear a world where being GREEN is something encouraged on an increasingly luxury scale... the very foundations of true and meaningful greenness is about something more the opposite of Luxury.

I just rue that we live in a world where some magazine honcho would pay 11 million for celeb baby pics instead of just feeling like donating that money to the greater good off the bat. Here is a tip to go green: everyone stop buying tabloid rags and put that money directly towards actually doing something that benefits others and the world and the environment... think of the trees that would be saved, if no one bought those stupid magazines.

I think Rebecca has made an excellent point!
If only more people were able to appreciate the true meaning of 'green' instead of treating it like a fashion accessory.
