Planet Green Tonight: Hollywood Green with Maria Menounos
by Kara DiCamillo, Newport, Rhode Island on 06. 5.08

Last night was a big one for us at TreeHugger. Our parent company, Discovery Communications, launched Planet Green, the first ever 24-7 TV channel dedicated to green living. With more than 200 hours of original green lifestyle programming, Planet Green is a fresh conversation about what it means to be environmental. Over the next few days we’ll bring you clips from the new shows and, in the meantime, don’t forget to use our channel finder so you can watch Planet Green in your home.
We've featured Wa$ted and Mean Green Machines and today we're bringing you the scoop on Hollywood Green, which delivers the latest in news regarding Hollywood stars and starlets who are going green while making headlines in movies, TV shows, music, events and fashion. Also included are expanded stories highlighting how celebrities are living green.
Celebrities will always be seen as trend setters and they have assisted in the popularity of the green movement. In partnership with the syndicated Access Hollywood, and hosted by Maria Menounos, the weekly one-hour entertainment newsmagazine series takes material shot for the NBC syndicated series and combines it with new material to create this Planet Green original.
Hollywood Green airs tonight at 9:00PM only on Planet Green. To view highlights of the Hollywood Green visit the Planet Green website.

General Motors is the “exclusive automobile sponsor” of the channel. Under the deal, GM vehicles will be integrated into some programs, and Discovery will produce short videos about the company.
That's GM -- the one that makes the Hummer and crushed its electric cars.
WTF?
I was really excited in the days leading up to the launch of Planet Green. What a let down. In my opinion (which I invite you to wholeheartedly disagree with) it was like the Access Hollywood of environmentalism. If I wanted to know which stars had adopted some green initiatives with their bloated pockets and ease of implementing million dollar, well architected, green homes, I would just google it. I was really hoping for more of the Wa$ted variety of show with more thoughts and ideas on how my family and I can make reasonable changes to green our lives. How I can pick an environmentally conscious builder when I decide to put up a new house, or how I can get the most out of my existing 10 year old gas guzzler by changing my driving habits or adding simple and cheap technologies.
C'mon Planet Green... ditch the fluff and turn up the important stuff. Stars aren't the ones going green and by showing them, people will just use it as an excuse. "I'm not rich like them, I can't afford to go green."
I work at a WAlgreens DRug Store in WHittier, CA. I notice in the night the lights stay on while the store is closed.
