Finally a Good Use for Aviator Sunglasses

Finally, a use for all those horrible aviator sunglasses that they can't give away on Canal Street, they are so over now.

"Iconic and original, inspired by the stars who rarely shun their shades in public, the Celebrity lamp has found a new use for aviator glasses, eyes and light switching their usual sides."

"The lamp shade is made of 40 pairs of mirrored aviator glasses and rests on a shiny, linear stand, featuring an amusing temple light switch.

When it is turned off, the lamp becomes an amazing silver sculpture, reflecting 80 times its surroundings. Switched on, the lenses become translucent and cast a kaleidoscope of oval shadows on the surrounding walls for a unique sophisticated ambiance."

I don't think these are "over" at all. I was in Milan last month and everyone was wearing them.

more junk on treehugger

this article is worthless. the quality of treehugger really is getting pathetic these days.

jump to top tyler says:

I don't mean to pile on, but the chroming process is pretty harmful and not environmentally friendly. Note the quality of chroming from 'the good old days' and today. In the good old days not too much attention was paid to the effects of the chroming process.
If this were a one-off piece, or made from used glasses, I could see the relevance, but to take new specs and turn these out makes me question.

Aviator eye shades? Yes. Aviator lamp shades? No.

maybe we could get some scientific reports up in here?

this is sustainable how? the only thing that this does is waste a lot of perfectly good sunglasses, ones we will need when the environment is ruined.

come on treehugger, get real, we have an actual crisis to solve!

well done, nice design.

With a price tag of $1,600 (AUD/USD?) I am fairly sure they won't be using any spare sunnies to make this creation. Definately an unusual post to appear here on treehugger.

I think this is ridiculous. How is this item treehugging?...Its not. These sunglasses aren't save from the trash. They are obviously brand new.

Granted this looks pretty, I think this product belongs in an art exhibit, not someones living room.

Hmm, uses for AVIATOR sunglasses... AVIATION perhaps?

E.g. not having eye tissue burnt out by hours of unadulterated sunlight, improving vision in certain weather conditions for VFR flight?

(and no, normal sunglasses let light in around the sides or are too dark to read instruments properly).
