Katie Holmes' Gas Guzzler
by Terri MacLeod on 06. 9.08

....Shame on Katie Holmes! The jet-settting actress had not one - but two SUV's idling in front of the NYC's Caryle hotel, reports the New York Post. The gas-guzzlers were parked outside so Mrs "on-the-go" Cruise could make a fast exit from the hotel at a moments notice. Please!!! Don't ever think this busy lady is like us, regular folks-- she's got no time to waste on pedestrian stuff like waiting for her car to start.

Gossip Girl Green Bags It!

Gossip Girl Kelly Rutherford flaunts head-to-toe desiginer gear and a greedy lady who lunch lifestyle on the hit TV drama. Yet off camera, she's a go-to-green gal. She and her husband are building a solar-powered home, complete with denim insulation, she's converted all her incadescent light bulbs to eco-friendly ones - and her must-have accessory is this resuable canvas FEED tote. "Its perfect as a diaper bag, roomy enough to lug groceries home, and is a simple thing everyone can own to cutdown on plastic bags and do their part to reduce waste."
Britney Spears Goes For An Eco-Ride:
...Could Britney be revving up for a greener life? The troubled star was spotted riding a down-sized electric car.

Ok, so her wheels are a wee bit small and (we hope) belong to her kids. But, this shot of Brit snug in an eco-kiddie ride was to precious to pass up.

Matthew McConaughey's Green Baby:

...Impending fatherhood inspired Matt to go green. The actor is apparently nervous about potential toxins his child will come in contact with. "Now that he's going to be a dad, Matt is paying more attention to what's around him," says a friend of his. So, he and his baby mama, Camila Aviles, dropped major cash to prep the most eco-friendly nursery, including a $1200 crib from Green For Baby in LA.

Sandra Bullock's Eco-Restarant

Sandra ditched Hollywood for a quiet life in Austin, Texas. The actress also put eco-friendly eats on the menu in the Lone Star state with her restaurant Bess. The eatery features recycled furnishings, some of which were made from the floorboards of her renovated home. Plus, the take-out containers are all biodegradable made from sugar cane and potatoes. ...Most recently she created a line of soy based wax candles called Bessence.
Law And Order SVU's Green Set

...No more bottled water on the set of Law & Order: SVU. Actor Chris Meloni banned the waste and bought everyone reusable plastic bottles. "It makes a big difference," reveals his co-star Mariska Hagritay, "Two hundred or so people work on the show and everybody used to drink 5 or 6 bottles daily - so that's a lot of bottles."

Please, please, please stop with the celebrity reporting. I am going to stop reading tree hugger and go elsewhere. This is a part of the problem not the solution. If I want to read about celebrities I would buy a tabloid or go to a celeb news website of some sort. Report on the real news not this garbage.
One would think Katie Holmes could afford vehicles whose engines start without difficulty. Those must be some real clunkers!
Maybe if we would stop staking people like Katie to get stories like these she wouldn't have to have 2 vehicles running so that she can make a quick exit. I'm also sure that Katie is not the only person in the world that owns 2 SUV's. This story is stupid. Leave the celebs alone!
I come here to read the real news and ideas about environment. I don't think this type of "news" add any value to this site.
too harsh, Ryan.
Not sure how reporting on celebrities is part of the problem. Hearing about how celebrities-who have influence, like it or not-are making positive changes to their lives and the lives of those they come in contact with, keeps me interested in Treehugger. If i want to read something technical or something light and fluffy, its all here.
Celebrities are as much a part of American culture as the automobile--it would be silly to avoid the topic as if it's not relevant.
(IMHO)
I agree 100%.
Stop it, please – just stop it.
Unfortunately, Green Planet is shaping up to be yet another celebrity obsessed channel devoted to selling stuff – only this time, it’s a green-wash. “Eco-celebs” is just about the most ridiculous descriptor I’ve come across in quite some time – just ridiculous.
Author/academic/journalist, George Monbiot sums it up well:
“Ethical shopping is in danger of becoming another signifier of social status. I have met people who have bought solar panels and mini-wind turbines before they have insulated their lofts: partly because they love gadgets, but partly, I suspect, because everyone can then see how conscientious (and how rich) they are. We are often told that buying such products encourages us to think more widely about environmental challenges, but it is just as likely to be depoliticising. Green consumerism is another form of atomisation - a substitute for collective action. No political challenge can be met by shopping.
The middle classes rebrand their lives, congratulate themselves on going green, and carry on buying and flying as much as ever before. It is easy to picture a situation in which the whole world religiously buys green products, and its carbon emissions continue to soar.”
OK... so I'm going to follow TreeHugger into Hello territory (please don't make me do it too often!) but what is going on with the body language between Tom and Katie?
My reading - Tom should be afraid!
Now, back to the real world...
I don't think we should be taking cues from a scientologist stepford wife... lol...
I agree "Please, please, please stop with the celebrity reporting". Else, why not go after all the environment we are destroying to protect our incompetent "supposed" leaders. All of them, from the top to the lowest local levels. Even religions. After that, we can go after the resources to protect animals... . Be careful Treehugger you're next!!!
I would generally agree that this kind of tabloid news isn't fit for treehugger.com, but the Katie Holmes story is, and here's why:
If we're going to be energy nags (and maybe that's a good thing, maybe not) as environmentalists, we should put social pressure on celebrities and us commoners alike. This crime against nature (heh, pun intended) is extremely unnecessary. Maybe the last car that Katie Holmes drove before she made it big, was a clunker that took 2 minutes to start on a warm day, but really, just keeping your chauffeur in the car waiting to spot you darting from the restaurant will ensure that the car will be running by the time you get in.
And by the way Katie, if your ride were a Prius or similar (not enough legroom in back? Pay someone to make more), your chauffeur could start the car *after* he accelerates from the curb, so there.
shame on britney, shes got a bottled water..
I vote no pandering to attention whores.
Katie should take this Challenge on Carbonrally....

if you don't like reading about celebrities...
then STOP complaining and
DON'T read this section of treehugger...
problem solved, plain and simple!
