Honda's New Dedicated Hybrid Might be Called 'Insight'
Friday afternoon, time for the rumor-mill. Auto Observer has been reporting that Honda might revive the 'Insight' name for its upcoming dedicated hybrid model. After all, there is no negativity associated with that name - the first Insight hybrid was just a bit ahead of its time (back in the days of $20-30 barrels of oil), and a bit too quirky for mainstream tastes.
Possible Launch Dates for Honda's New Hybrid
More rumors claim that Honda will unveil this new 'Insight' at the Paris Auto Show in early October, or maybe at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, and then it will launch it officially at the Detroit Auto Show in January. We'll have to wait and see if the rumors turn out to be accurate.

I wish I bought an Insight when I was getting my first car... Why did I get a Civic?!? Relatively fuel efficient, but whenever I see a Prius or even the rare sight of an Insight, I wish I had bought a hybrid...
Now if they'll only make it look cool. Why is it that every efficient vehicle (Prius, Civic, Jetta TDI) easily ranks near the top of the "most boring design on the planet" list?
Toyota needs to drop the current design and build the Prius X concept. I'd buy that sucker in an instant.
I saw an Insight few years back and I thought it was pretty cool.
I coud really care less if it looks "cool." I just want something that is fuel efficient, reliable, and has all the regular amenities every other car has.
Too bad Honda won't just dedicate itself to just electric vehicles.
No matter how fuel efficient our cars are, we still add CO2 to the air every time we burn a gallon of gas.
I think the Prius is a cool body style. The car is trying to be all things to all people. They should be able to make the hybrid drivetrain an option on their different models ... and I don't mean Lexus 450 hybrid either. Like Corolla hybrid, small truck hybrid.
In small islands, they have micro sized pickup trucks that are cool looking.
Quirky is true.

I bought one, not the best of design. It only gets 60mpg (not the 70 advertised), plus, if you run through a puddle too quickly it will rip off part of the back bumper. Actually, I had part of the underbody torn off because of snow. The fault is because the underbody is made of plastic which rips easier than the metal. The panels that cover the back wheels flew off on occasion if you go to fast on the freeway; had to tie those down. Parts are overpriced and few places here carry them.
Oh well, still have to fill up only once a month.
Dougs post about parts coming of in the snow or at hi speeds is something I have never experienced. I own a 2000 Insight with about 108K on it. I drive at well over the speed limit every day on my commute without any problems. I try not drive the car through snow drifts because its so light it would just get stuck. Also, with any small light vehicle, its best to stay home than to try and drive on unplowed roads. I have not seen any really big charges, but nothing major has happened to the vehicle. Yes the oil is pricey but since you only need 2.5 quarts, the price works out the same.
Mines a manual and it gets around 55mpg, and I drive it like i stole it.
