Wal-Mart To Help 20 State Capitals Save Money And Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions
by John Laumer, Philadelphia on 05.13.08

Wal-Mart has agreed to help US taxpayers take climate action. Over the next two years, they are sending energy audit teams to 20 State Capitol complexes to help save taxpayers money and help the environment...while the Federal Government equivocates on climate risk. This is by sponsorship of the respective State Governors (see State list below the fold).
The 'Greening State Capitols' partnership will provide governors an opportunity to reduce the overall energy consumption of their state capitol complexes by having a team of energy experts conduct a clean energy audit of the facility. Wal-Mart will send engineering experts to 20 state capitol complexes throughout 2008 and 2009 with the goal of identifying energy efficiency improvements that will provide a return on investment within five years. In addition, the experts will demonstrate the anticipated cost savings and carbon dioxide reductions each state could experience by implementing the recommended improvements.
We suggest reading the entire press release issued by the Association of State Governors.
And we would like to offer our congratulations to the National Governors Association Task Force members who were instrumental in organizing the "State Summit on Clean Power and Efficiency," sponsored by the National Governors Association's Securing a Clean Energy Future Initiative (SCEF Initiative). Three cheers for the governors of these states. Climate action works with real leadership.

Way to go! Walmart.
Nice! And great that they're doing this in places where the idea of "climate change" hasn't made much of an inroad.
So will Walmart sue the government for the savings they helped them discover?
Good green initiatives may not be "green washing" but the can still be white washing their other ills.
If Walmart spent a billion on PR, they'd be as loved as McDonalds and like McD's we'd all not care about their high (but legal) levels of cow manure in the burgers...
I bet you walmart quietly fights anything that undoes the externalization that has created walmart and made China's america's outsourced polluter. The big issues are being ignored and that is the true motive behind their current actions.
Now if only Wal-Mart didn't spend so much money in my great state (huge sarcasm) of Arkansas on charter school lobbying and more on public transit funding to help the great folks of Arkansas get around more without HAVING to depend on a car. Maybe if folks didn't have to spend so much money on gas...they just might buy more items at Wal-Mart which are normally a hop, skip, and a jump from their house. Wal-Mart is becoming more like Wal-Greens, "One on every corner."
I wish I was over Wal-Mart, the world would be a far different place.
i think is a huge step toward business leadership, its time we appreciated efforts made by wal-mart to the world a better place.Consumer don't only want to purchase products, but want to associate them selves with businesses that do really care for them. How i wish even other companies could follow suit.Global warming is a responsibility for all ogf us and we should do whatever in our power to control it
