Survey: What Browser Do You Read TreeHugger With?

by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 05.14.08
Interact (surveys)

survey-operating-system.jpg
We had a debate yesterday about which browsers our readers used and why. Which do you use? Do you have any problems with TreeHugger on it?

UPDATE I forgot Safari (sorry Mac fans) please click Other as I cannot change the survey without it resetting to zero. My profuse apologies.

What, no Safari?

All the Mac zealots will be angry...

LA: Arrgh! Sorry Mac Zealots!

Other is what best describes my usage. When I'm sitting at a Windows machine I use Opera Portable. Or Firefox Portable if I need it. When I am on my laptop or at home we use Opera for Linux, Firefox for Linux or Konquerer. Am playing with Seamonkey now.

Whatever the case I go for months without ever using Internet Explorer.

I've been using the eco edition of Flock as of late but I've been having problems with it in terms of some video playback and the HUGE memory hog issue. If I have everything loaded up the same in Firefox, Flock will easily eat more than double the amount of memory that Firefox uses and doesn't release nearly as much of it as Firefox when websites are closed. Yesterday in fact, Flock was up to 400 megs (of RAM usage) when my Firefox has never gone over 200 even though I've got a whole lot more add-ons than Flock. The add-ons are also the same in case someone was going to suggest I'm doing something differently (I'm not).

Ummm... Don't you guys have web traffic analysis software to tell you what browsers and platforms your site visitors are using?

Since you asked - Firefox 2.0.0.14 running on WinXP

Isn't this the kind of thing that's more accurately answered via the server logs?

Safari
Why not on the list, duh!

LA: Duh, why don't you read the update above the poll? Because I made a mistake.

jump to top Chris says:

Safari (the #3-ranked browser).

jump to top Mike says:

I use Firefox for computer browsing, but Opera Mini on my cellphone.

NO SAFARI!?!?!?!
WHAT!

NEVER FORGET SAFARI!

jump to top Sully says:

another Safari user!

Opera is #3!!
I use Opera for eveything from Desktop, Laptop, and even on my cell (Opera Mini). I then use Firefox. However...I am liking Safari fro PC a lot. Its new rendering engine is rather fast. It is a memory hog but hopefully that will be fixed soon.
The new Flock browser is neat. I don't ever touch IE unless an ignorant web developer made the website IE-specific. Standards people, standards!

For Mr. Obvious (you know who you are), of course treehugger is using web traffic analysis. The point of this survey is to get user involvement. If you understand apps such as Google Analytics, Sitemeter, Woopra then you will understand that not all stats are accurate. They are rather good but not always accurate.

I use Seamonkey by Mozilla, the browser of choice for Puppy
Linux users such as me.

Safari because it just works.
