Poop Freeze: The "Enviromentally Friendly" Way to Deal With It
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 05. 5.08

Dogs can be wonderful creatures, but they do tend to leave deposits, which in most places have to be picked up, usually in plastic bags, and then disposed of. It is often an unpleasant task; that is why we are so excited about Poop-freeze, the new way to keep the environment clean of unsightly dog poop by spraying it with something that freezes it on contact. Professional New York dog walker Ilene says "I need to be careful because of dog poop laws. POOP-FREEZE makes it real easy." Billy in St.Paul says ""Nobody likes pickin up poop but your product makes it fun. Plus it's environmentlaly friendly.”

Right, Billy! It is CFC free, so we know that freezing poop and picking it up with a plastic bag, and carefully recycling the empty aerosol can will be good for the environment. A handy carrier is also available for carrying your Poop Freeze and your bagged frozen poop. ::Poop Freeze via ::product dose
Other great spray and aerosol products we have loved:
Organic Batter Blaster
Air Conditioner in a Can from Japan
Miracles In Spray Cans: Life Was Soooo Easy, 1957
Spray-on Defense from WiFi and Cellphones

Is it April Fool's day again? This seems to be an absolutely ridiculous waste of resources......
Other than being hilarious, what is it that this product is supposed to do?
Other than being hilarious, what is it that this product is supposed to do?
I think you posted this in the wrong blog. This is a gimmick, and an unnecessary one, therefor a wasteful one.
Sure picking up hot poo isn't fun but freezing poo can't be great either.
good, now we are going to see thousands of patches of frozen grass in the field... don't even say its environmentally friendly when chemicals are needed for the freezing reaction or the amount of energy needed to produce a can of that...
Am I the only one laughing?
Come on , is this a joke?
OK let's take this seriously, how many poops can a can of poop freeze freeze?
I fail to see how this is friendly at all. Yes, it's CFC free, but who cares? Is it really that hard to pick up poo with a plastic bag or clamper? (I mean, unless your dog CONSTANTLY has the runs). Part of the three Rs is reducing, and this product does not appear to fulfill that in use or even theoretical practice. Freezing dog poo does not appear to enhance environmental friendliness or even really enhance the ease of which to do it.
Overall grade: F
This belongs in the American junk pile of "stuff we don't really need but get anyway because it might sorta be useful in a I need more stuff type of way".
I should apparently pay more attention to the tags that say stuff like "untreehugger" written in small print at the top and bottom of the article. SMALL PRINT.
Are you serious? THIS is environmentally friendly? Wow...a new low.
this product is a piece of crap
the uses resources in order to keep the crap on the ground
i don't see how it's environmentally freindly
Has nobody heard of irony? Is there no humor amongst the huggers?
This is totally rediculous, people shouldnt even have dogs large enough to be a problem in the city anyways and if you do pick the hot squishy crap up with your hand in the baggy wasting energy and resources to freeze the crap so its not hot and squish is absurd its your dogs poop take responsibility for it and pick it up with your hand or go see a therapist if your that messed up.
Maybe more people would get the joke if you clearly labeled it as such - remember, "non-treehugger" people come here looking for advice about being "green" and might not notice (Even I didn't, I will admit it) that it was a "joke"...and then go to the store and buy this crap. Just a thought.
I guess not many can detect the sarcasm through this entire article- do you really think TH would endorse and praise garbage like this? The makers of this product are so misguided I don't know whether it's more sad or funny.
Hey everyone
"environmentally friendly"
notice the quotations alluding to sarcasm? Lighten up.
Hasn't anyone out there seen "Envy" with Ben Stiller and Jack Black? Jack invented a can of stuff that made poop disappear and it ended up going terribly wrong (hilarity did ensue, however).
The Earth will stop spinning on its axis if we use this stuff.
See the IMDB!!!

huh. this is so backwards, it's got to be sarcasm. right? I think you should be more careful w/ sarcastically "supporting" ridiculous products (like spray AC, spray pancake batter, and spray-cans full of, um, anything)
they're funny and all. but call a frozen poop a poop.
This is only meant for the occasional use. Don't freak out.
lol i've been tripped up by the small print "untreehugger" label lol...
This is fantastic, I just can't wait until they get the bigger version, you know, the one thats used on someone who is acting like a piece of s**t concerning the environment.
Go, new-tech, go !
The grossest thing about picking up dog poop is when its still warm. This is a fine product.
Does anyone know a real environmentally friendly way to pick up dog poop? I have been using corn-plastic bags because they are biodegradable - but using a food source to pick up my dog's #2's is obviously not the way to go. My local pet shops and natural product stores are stumped.
Jeez, who paid you to do their green-washing. Just because a spray doesn't use CFCs it is not automatically environment friendly!!! This product is just a huge waste of resources. If you have a dog carry some simple plastic (bio-degradable) bags to pick it up with.. (I do!)
Wow. Folks.
*face palm*
Trying for that civility TH would like. *deep breath*
This is very clearly a sarcastic post on the part of TreeHugger. The quotations in the title, the snarky commentary about the cans and plastic bags as waste, the tags.
TreeHugger isn't run by morons, folks. This isn't the first time the commentary has caused me major frustration. Argh.
its R-134a, CFC free, but a powerful contributor to global warmin.
The "Right Billy!" line didn't cue ya'll in?
Clearly this is not a True Treehugger article, they are mocking it. An environmentally safe way to clean dog poop, is to use a pooper scooper I would think, that way you can dispose of it without using a bag. I know it would be more of a pain to carry one of those around, but if you want to do it for the environment that is the way I would go.
There's being green, then there's being a lemon. Seriously you people need to learn to laugh.
You're not doing a very good job of promoting the lifestyle by being conclusion-jumping, accusational angry #%¶ªs
Rachel,
Humor and the inability to appreciate it are the responsibility not only of the person attempting to tell the joke, but also of the audience. Mr. Alter went well above and beyond snarky commentary, and so far thepsyofcharles has been the only one to spot one of the clues that this is a joke.
One of the first things to come to my mind in reading this posting was the delicious sarcasm used in Paul Verhoeven's "Robocop." Mr. Alter, I'll have whatever you're drinking (so long as it's not a damned sugary martini).
To think that any conservationist would endorse a product like this is ludicrous. Picking up after your pet shouldn't be an issue. It is littering - plain and simple. I don't give a fetid pair of dingo's kidneys if the poop is warm or not - if you have a pet, pick up after it. Deal with it. Corn starch-based plastic bags are widely available as an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic.
Im with everyone else here. Big FAT "F" grade on this. What about the chemicals and can and everything that go into freezing the poop! This is crap (no pun intended!).
Lesson learned, very funny, ha ha ha
And no that wasn't irony it was sarcasm
Va-poo-rize!
Wow, Jack Black wasn't far off.
This is ridiculous. Instead of wasting more money on a can that probably won't be recycled in most places, which has a plastic nozzle and sprayer (non-recyclable), and a bag for "convenient carrying", why don't people just buy compostable bags. Granted a bit more, but worth it if your main goal is saving the environment and resources while picking up poop.
