Yes, Wangari Maathai, the founder of the Green Belt Movement, was the first to receive a Nobel Peace Prize for environmental work. But as she makes ever-so-clear, trees are not just ecological super heroes. They form a bridge to women’s rights, sustainable development, democracy, and (yes, indeed) world peace.
