NYU Greens Campus Move-Out Day
by Kenny Luna, North Babylon, NY on 05.15.08
Expecting to keep about 25,000 pounds of reusable goods out of the landfill, this Saturday’s inaugural "Green Apple Move Out" collection drive being organized to coincide with the annual dorm move-out means students rooming at NYU will have a greener choice when it comes to getting rid of that old futon they just keep meaning to find another use for.
According to the NYU Sustainability Task Force unwanted and gently used items and even non-perishable food are being accepted at designated locations on campus between noon and 4 p.m.
Ultimately, the unwanted goods will find themselves in the hands of local non-profits that can ensure they wind up as someone else’s treasure rather than just another piece of trash.
For more information you can check out NYU's Sustainability Task Force website.

Birmingham-Southern College (Birmingham, AL) has participated in a service like this the last year or so. It's a great success - especially for students aren't returning to the dorm life.
BSC has a lot of service projects and recycling is HUGE. I think you'll find that colleges everywhere take steps to be greener. I know this last year at BSC a bank donated bikes for a bike share program.
Just thought I would give some publicity to a school that is not as well known at NYU to let others know the green movement even reaches to the South.
This is great, my campus did that this year as well!
