Joey Roth Demonstrates His Sorapot
by Lloyd Alter, Toronto on 05.22.08

Designer and occasional TreeHugger contributor Joey Roth brought his Sorapot to ICFF; we love it because it turns tea time into showtime. As Joey said in an earlier post: "I’ve always been entranced by small, beautiful things that are so detailed, they seem like miniature worlds, yet so ordinary they’re often left unnoticed. I designed Sorapot to emphasize one of my favorite- the unfurling of tea leaves."
We used our sophisticated new video tools to catch a demo of of it, below the fold. See more ICFF coverage and ::Sorapot

Pretty cool idea, but totally pointless. You've got to boil water in one medium, and instead of pouring your water once, you've got to do it twice. And then wait longer? And have two things to wash?
I think I'll stick to my traditional kettle.
I'm sure it's lovely to look at, but it's still totally pointless.
As they say, it's just not my cup of tea.
hey! i like this teapot! good design...!
Far from being "pointless", this teapot adds beauty, serenity, and pleasure to tea drinking and to life. It's clearly not for the quick cup of tea made with boiling water and a tea bag. Making a pot of fine loose tea should be a calming, serene experience, and this "sorapot" adds even more beauty -- just sitting on a table and brewing tea. It reminds me of the experience of pouring a fine wine into a beautiful glass -- the aromas, color and flavors are all enhanced, as is the overall experience. Yes, it's an extra step and you later have to wash the glass! I suppose it would be more "efficient" to drink the wine straight from the bottle, but that destroys the entire experience.
