The 70 square meter Maison evolutiV was shown at the Salon Européen du bois et de l'Habitat Durable in April. It looks like a few container projects we have seen but is made from wood. (that is the point of the Salon) It was designed by olgga architectes.

I love the way it sits on a pile of logs.

"It is a low consumption modular wood home, consuming only 48 Kwh/square meter/year. It is composed of 2 prefabricated units: the ground floor, a living space provides a continuity with the garden and on the floor, a sleeping space with two rooms offer the occupants greater intimacy. The skin of the house is made of chestnut stakes of various diameters."

"The hot water is produced by solar panels laid on the roof. A recovery of rainwater, installed in the mound of wood used to feed toilets, washing machines and irrigation valves.
The insulation (wool wood in different thicknesses) is coupled inside the building by the cellulose."

For those of us who don't speak french, how much does it cost? How long does it take to build? etc. :p

Is it just me or does it seem that building out of wood is a bad idea for many reasons? Take climate change and upcoming erratic weather into account or maybe its because I live in CA and wood homes are ILLEGAL here do to firestorms....

no mention of price or time to build

IMHO, we should have made stricter building codes along time ago, not just for energy conservation reasons.

I had a neighbors house catch fire, he was in the back yard and saw the smoke and dialed 911. ETA from 911 to firemen in the yard was about 2 minutes, in 3-4 minutes total time the house was a total loss.

I keep hearing about the town destroyed by tornadoes rebuilding green, and I keep thinking to myself, I hope they rebuild tornado proof as well. Hopefully they are doing both and green is getting the lime light.

I would love to build a steel frame or concrete house, but it would mean an hour long commute or to tear something down first.

JC, I recommend you read “The death of Common Sense”. Make Codes stricter will just make stupid solutions for easy problems. The reason buildings aren’t “fabricated” to endure tornados, floods, fires is economy. It becomes easier to rebuild than to remodel, and it helps the economy. Move to Mexico my friend, wood is only used to pour concrete on top of it. And please think about the consequences of following Codes; codes and rules are for stupid people.
